A Healthcare Professional’s Journey to UK Care Leadership

Blessworld's passion for helping others began early in his homeland.

In 2010, while in high school, he was nominated to lead the First Aid team, collaborating with local emergency services to organize inter-school competitions from zonal to national levels—a role that sparked his interest in healthcare.

After completing high school and advanced-level education, Blessworld initially explored ICT under his family's encouragement but soon realized his heart lay elsewhere. Seven years later, he found his way back to healthcare, training at Multichoice Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. Alva M. Senderayi. Over two and a half years, Blessworld honed his skills, taking on administrative roles at Multichoice Hospital and Highway Polyclinic, even assisting in theater operations.

Blessworld's career flourished as he worked for prestigious private organizations like Nectacare Highlands Family Clinic and various healthcare institutions. He expanded his expertise by becoming a certified Ambulance Technician and a Mental Health First Aider. Throughout his journey, his colleagues and the bonds they built inspired him to strive for excellence.

The Relocation Experience

Relocating to the UK was no small feat. Blessworld recalls the stress and anxiety of delayed flights, particularly on February 21st, a date forever etched in his memory. Yet, with the constant support and reassurance from the MMA Recruitment team, he pushed through. From receiving his offer letter in September 2022 to finally boarding the plane in February 2023, MMA's dedicated team facilitated every step, from references to visa applications, ensuring Blessworld felt supported throughout the process.

Leaving his family behind for a job thousands of miles away was daunting, but as Helen Keller said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." Upon arrival, Blessworld was warmly welcomed by The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT). The team had arranged nearby accommodation, paid for the initial month's rent and deposit, covered transport from the airport, and even provided a shopping voucher. Katie, OSJCT's Recruitment Business Partner, personally ensured Blessworld and his two fellow recruits were set up and ready for their induction training.

At Athelstan House, Blessworld met an incredible team, including Manager Dean Palfrey, deputies Louise and Lucy, and colleagues from various international backgrounds. Their kindness and support helped him settle in quickly, navigating shadow shifts and learning the ropes of person-centered care. "One size doesn't fit all," he discovered, embracing the unique needs of every resident.

Growing into Leadership

Today, Blessworld serves as a Care Leader at Athelstan House. His role is demanding yet fulfilling, involving care planning, coordinating high-quality care delivery, and overseeing shifts to ensure smooth operations. What Blessworld cherishes most is the opportunity to work closely with residents, their families, and healthcare professionals to develop and review personalized care plans addressing physical, emotional, and social needs.

As part of his professional growth, Blessworld is pursuing an NVQ Level 3 in Adult Social Care. This training enhances his ability to contribute directly to improving care quality while understanding essential frameworks and UK care legislation.

From his beginnings in healthcare to becoming a Care Leader in the UK, Blessworld's journey exemplifies resilience, growth, and a commitment to making a difference.

As he says, "Home is best, but never stop exploring."

His story is a testament to the power of determination and the impact of embracing opportunities across borders.
